    • New Year's Day

    • Memorial Day

    • Independence Day

    • Labor Day

    • Thanksgiving

    • Friday after Thanksgiving

  • At the beginning of each calendar year, full-time employees who have been with the company for one year or more, receive 160 hours of paid time off (the equivalent of 4 work weeks) to be used over the course of that calendar year. Employees that have been with the company less than a year receive 80 hours of paid time off (the equivalent of 2 work weeks) to be used over the course of the calendar year. Pay is not granted in lieu of taking the actual time off and may not be carried over into subsequent calendar years. Upon termination of your employment at Luminous Forensics, you will not be paid for any remaining accrued but unused paid time off.

  • 401k: Luminous Forensics has a 401k plan in place that you can make contributions to. In addition, the company contributes an amount equal to 3% of your annual salary to your 401k. This is regardless of your personal 401k contribution.

  • Tuition Assistance: Luminous Forensics offers a tuition, fee, and book assistance program to eligible employees who complete job-related courses with a grade of B or better. To participate in this program, you must be a full-time employee who has completed one year of employment. You must obtain written approval from Nathan or Neal prior to registration for the course. If approved, you will be reimbursed for tuition, fees, and books after you complete the course with a B or better. You are responsible for any other costs associated with taking the course (food, transportation, and parking, for instance).

  • Job-Related Training and Seminars: Luminous Forensics will invest in your development by sending you to job-related training and seminars. Our annual budget for training and seminars will vary from year to year and we will allocate this budget in the way that we judge best for both the company and the employees. We encourage you to submit requests for courses you would like to attend. You must obtain written approval from the Nathan or Neal prior to registration for the course. If approved, the company will cover the cost of the course and any travel expenses incurred. Travel expenses must be reasonable and approved in advance.

  • Research Opportunities: Luminous Forensics values research as a part of your development. There are always numerous research projects ongoing at Luminous, and we encourage you to get involved in those. This is one way for you to develop your expertise and to progress within the company. There are around 2,000 work hours in a year. Our expectation is that each billable staff member will bill at least 1,500 hours, but no more than 1,800. We hope that this range of hours will leave you with time to be involved in at least a couple of our ongoing research projects.

  • Worker’s Compensation Insurance: On-the-job injuries are covered by our Worker’s Compensation insurance policy. This insurance is provided at no cost to you. If you are injured on the job, no matter how slightly, report the incident immediately to your supervisor. Consistent with applicable state law, failure to report an injury within a reasonable period of time could jeopardize your claim. We ask for your assistance in alerting us to any condition that could lead or contribute to an accident.

  • Bereavement Leave: You are eligible immediately upon hire for three paid days for the death of an immediate family member. Members of the immediate family include spouses, parents, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, grandparents, and parents-in-law. Full-time employees are eligible immediately upon hire for one paid day to attend the funeral of family members not in their immediate family.

  • Disability Leave: You are eligible for an unpaid disability leave immediately upon hire. Disability leave due to non-occupational illness, injury or pregnancy-related disability is not to exceed 12 weeks. Employees requesting leave must provide written notice of the disability, including a doctor’s certificate stating the nature of the disability and the expected date of return to work. You may continue your medical, dental, and vision care insurance coverage during this leave, by making arrangements with the Director of Operations to pay the monthly premiums in advance each month. When you are able to return to work, give us at least one week’s advance written notice. Include a doctor’s certificate stating that you are medically able to return to your normal duties. We will return you to the same or similar position you held prior to the disability leave, subject to our staffing and business requirements. Your continued absence from work beyond your disability, as determined by your physician, will be deemed a voluntary termination of your employment.

  • Military Leave: Employees who are required to fulfill military obligations in any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States or in state military service will be given the necessary time off and reinstated in accordance with federal and state laws. The time off will be unpaid, except where state law dictates otherwise. Exempt employees may be provided time off with pay when necessary to comply with state and federal wage and hour laws. You may choose to use accrued vacation time for military leave. Also, your benefits may continue to accrue during the period of leave in accordance with state and federal law and you may qualify for extended insurance coverage under COBRA. Military orders should be presented to your supervisor and arrangements for leave made as early as possible before a departure. Employees are required to give advance notice of their service obligations to the company unless military necessity makes this impossible. You must notify your supervisor of your intent to return to employment.

  • Family Leave and Medical Act: Luminous Forensics is not currently subject to the requirements of the Family Leave and Medical Act (FMLA). However, we have voluntarily chosen to implement it. This allows full-time, salaried employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave. Eligible employees are entitled to:

    Twelve workweeks of leave in a 12-month period for:

o   the birth of a child and to care for the newborn child within one year of birth;

o   the placement with the employee of a child for adoption or foster care and to care for the newly placed child within one year of placement;

o   to care for the employee’s spouse, child, or parent who has a serious health condition;

o   a serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of his or her job;

o   any qualifying exigency arising out of the fact that the employee’s spouse, son, daughter, or parent is a covered military member on “covered active duty;” or

Twenty-six workweeks of leave during a single 12-month period to care for a covered servicemember with a serious injury or illness if the eligible employee is the servicemember’s spouse, son, daughter, parent, or next of kin (military caregiver leave).

We ask that if you choose to use this benefit, you give us as much notice as possible and that you take steps necessary to prepare the company to perform effectively in your absence.
